Portfolio
At NSTI, our projects speak for themselves.
See for yourself.
NSTI brings proven expertise backed by a strong portfolio of completed projects across Alaska and beyond.
The following projects offer a glimpse into our successful work alongside trusted partners, demonstrating our ability to deliver reliable, high-quality solutions.
1,000-Man Construction Camp
NSTI served as the prime telecommunications contractor for the Alpine 1,000-Man Construction Camp, leading the system design of a wide-area, safety-critical communications network that supported the construction of the Alpine Development Project. The team engineered an integrated solution that included a radio network spanning 100 miles of pipeline and ice roads, a wide-area UHF repeater system with dedicated channels for major contractors, multiple digital microwave systems, PABX telephone systems, C-band satellite connectivity, and camp cable TV systems. Over 100,000 feet of buried copper and single- and multimode fiber were designed to connect more than 100 construction trailers and facilities across a dozen locations.
All construction support systems were carefully designed and coordinated for a smooth cutover to permanent facilities, with many temporary elements later integrated into the permanent telecommunications plant. Throughout the four-year construction period, NSTI’s system design and execution were repeatedly recognized by the client for being on time and under budget, with no construction delays attributed to communications and an exemplary safety record with zero lost-time injuries.
Oilfield Telecommunication Systems
Our team supported the 90,000 BBL/day Alpine oilfield project with full-service procurement and materials management for all telecommunications systems. Working closely with the client’s engineering team, NSTI developed detailed design documents and comprehensive equipment bills of materials, then received, staged, and managed all telecom materials. As individual facilities came online, NSTI assembled and shipped pre-packaged material kits to the field and deployed installation crews to align with construction schedules. NSTI also coordinated subcontractor-provided systems to ensure their equipment was delivered, installed, and commissioned on time. All procured assets were captured in a formal turnover package, including 15 volumes of documentation and inventories and more than 600 technical drawings, providing the client with complete visibility into installed equipment and spares.
Remote Site Telecommunications Support for Oil Exploration
We deliver highly coordinated logistics support for remote oil exploration telecommunications across Alaska’s onshore and offshore environments. Pre-wired and tested portable communication shelters—complete with power systems, routers, radios, and alarm equipment—are staged and then shipped by truck, vessel, or C-130 for rapid deployment in extreme conditions. NSTI plans and supports local and wide-area radio networks for logistics, safety, spill response, and aviation, including airport operations and navigation aids. With an experienced, stable field workforce and an extensive inventory of equipment and shelters, NSTI is able to mobilize quickly, integrate systems with drilling rigs and camps, and sustain reliable communications on short notice, even in severe weather.
Telecommunications Infrastructure at
Drill Site
NSTI led the construction of the telecommunications infrastructure for ConocoPhillips’ Greater Moose’s Tooth 2 (GMT2) drill site, delivering a fully built communications platform in the National Petroleum Reserve–Alaska. Work included constructing a 195’ self-supporting lattice tower with multiple work platforms and a self-contained communications module, installing the overland fiber backbone, and building the redundant microwave link. NSTI constructed all on-pad systems—networking, paging, digital trunked radio, oil-spill response communications, CCTV, and FLIR monitoring—and integrated space and power for third-party cellular providers.
During active construction, NSTI also built and wired temporary offices and large 408- and 272-man camps, providing secure network connectivity, monitoring, and HIPAA-compliant medical networks. NSTI partnered with ASTAC to construct a new cellular site supporting the project area.
Remote Village Work
Our team executed full installation and commissioning of seven new KU-band satellite sites and five microwave links across remote Yukon–Kuskokwim villages, delivering critical bandwidth increases for distance learning. Work included geo-surveys, site clearing with local hires, installing ground rings, hauling fill to level each site, constructing large antenna mounts, building pathways for power and signal cabling, and installing all RF and network equipment.
Teams erected two towers (80’ and 60’), installed 8′ microwave antennas on GCI Terra sites, mounted equipment at village locations, and completed full system turn-up and commissioning. Crews spent weeks in remote villages completing the work safely, achieving more than 17,000 incident-free hours.
